For many beer lovers, it wouldn't be a fun summer without an afternoon of enjoying a chilled beer under the shaded canopy of a beer garden with friends and others that love the spirit of summer and a nice cold beer.

As part of our summer outdoor event plans of visiting different beer gardens across DC, Maryland and Virginia we have selected a beer garden in Maryland known for its wide range of beer selection—Belgian, German, Czech and local craft beers.

Tyber Bierhaus located in Bethesda, Maryland is a celebration of the backyard barbecue traditions of our American culture and an acknowledgement to the biergartens of Bavaria. It's named after the historic Tyber Creek, which once flowed from Capitol Hill to the Potomac River.

Tyber Bierhaus is a German inspired Beer Hall serving hearty German Oktoberfest cuisine as well as traditional American favorites. Guests can choose from a variety of international beers which include German, Belgian and Czech alongside local American craft beers. The beer garden also has blocks of community style tables, imported from Germany, which adds to the communal and lively atmosphere.

We will enjoy a couple of hours at Tyber Bierhaus trying their different beers before walking to a nearby art gallery managed by the Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District.

Gallery B, in Bethesda is currently featuring the work of artist Saya Behnam, called Saffron and Tea. The artist uses natural dry mediums such as saffron, hibiscus, borage tea, henna, and coffee to create her colors. These dried herbs and spices are steeped in hot water until they create the tones that she wishes to use.

As Saya Behnam applies each color layer with Chinese brushes, a chemical interaction with the previous color layer occurs, creating further nuances of delicate tones. This process is said to create an element of uncertainty with all the possibilities of colors as they mix but also demonstrating the control of the artist to create a delicately colorful pattern.
