Art, Architecture, Landscape and a Glass of Beer

This is an event for our members that appreciate art, architecture and nature as we explore a museum that is a hidden gem which seeks to combine the beautiful elements of contemporary art with the natural beauty of its landscape.

We will do a guided tour of the museum gallery and a walk in the beautiful outdoor space, and then head out to a nearby brewery for drinks and a picnic.

Getting to Know Glenstone

A visit to Glenstone is an aesthetic experience and contemplation as the elements of contemporary art and architecture harmoniously merge with its natural surroundings. The museum space and experience revel the vision and passion of its founders Mitchell and Emily Rales for three fundamental elements: art, architecture, and landscape.

The entire Glenstone experience is thoughtfully crafted, as the site is designed to unfold in a series of fragmented views—the building and its outdoor sculptures are purposefully designed to unfold themselves in a series of revelation and expectation.

As visitors enter through the gate of the museum the allée of trees, the pond, the building and Richard Serra's 'Sylvester' sculpture create a sequence of views and experiences, as the elements of architecture, sculpture, and landscape are recombined in various ways.

Inside the main building, the Glenstone collection comprises paintings, sculptures, works on paper, photographs, installations, and multimedia works by artists who have come to international prominence since World War II.

The outdoor space also includes the work of artist Jeff Koons, titled Split-Rocker which is constructed by combining stainless steel, soil, geotextile fabric, internal irrigation system, and live flowering plants.

Our Event Plan

We will do a group tour of the exhibition in the galleries and an outdoor sculpture tour. We have requested a reservation for 25 participants, but to have the best experience from our guided tour, we will split the group into half as we engage in the different tours of the museum.

The outdoor tour covers approximately one mile of varied terrain so we suggest wearing comfortable and durable footwear.

The parking space is limited so we encourage carpooling for this event.

Beer and Picnic

After our visit to Glenstone we will head over to 7 Locks Brewing in Rockville who offer 10 beers on tap.

At the brewery, we will taste their popular year round brews and some seasonal beers. The brewery also offers tours at different times and those that are interested in learning more about their brewing processes can join a tour.

You can bring some light food or snacks to go with your beer.
