Holiday Party with Sparkling Wines

We are going to bid farewell to 2017, with a little holiday cheer and a celebration of all the fun moments we have had with Grapes & Grains this year, while making new friends and exploring the many beautiful parts of DC, Maryland and Virginia.

Sparkling wines from around the world

To bring a little holiday sparkle into our celebration, we will be tasting a variety of sparkling wines, from some of the best growing regions, from around the world, like Champagne, Cava, Crémant, Spumante, Sekt among others.

Holiday Party Details

Our core member Cindy will be hosting our holiday party at her house in Alexandria, Virginia, where we will celebrate another year of friendship and adventures.

Grapes and Grains wine tasting event

For this to be a fun Sparkling Wine Party, we request our Grapes & Grains participants to bring a sparkling wine bottle, from any of your favorite wine regions from around the world, along with a food dish or dessert to share.

We have specified a few sparkling wine regions in the details below, but you may venture off the beaten path and bring a sparkling wine from a different region.

Sparkling Wines from around the World

In the pantheon of sparkling wines, Champagne has always stood at the top, though good, even great, sparkling wines are made in many parts of the world. Sparkling wines, like Cava, Spumante, Sekt and Crémant, among others, have closed the quality gap while generally remaining more affordable.

Sparkling wine and food pairing

Sparkling wines are known by different names in different countries, but most of them employ what’s known as the méthode Champenoise. This means that the second fermentation, which introduces the bubbles, occurs in each individual bottle.

Italy- Spumante (Asti & Prosecco)

France - Champagne & Crémant (wines made outside Champagne region)

Germany, Austria, Czech and Slovak - Sekt
