Exploring an Artisanal Italian Liqueur Distillery

We are headed to the new Italian liqueur distillery in the Ivy City neighborhood, which is double the size of the previous Manor Park, that has been a favorite with many of our members for its limoncello, besides an impressive collection of amari, aperitivi and cordials.

An Artisanal Italian Liqueur Distillery in DC

Don Ciccio & Figli has just moved to their new location in the Ivy City neighborhood of DC. They produce artisan liqueurs, and their recipes as they claim, have been handed down from generation to generation, having started on the Amalfi coast in Italy.

Owner Francesco Amodeo produces a full range of traditional Italian amaro, cordials and liqueurs, inspired by his family distillery on Italy's Amalfi Coast, which opened in 1883 and was destroyed by a 1980 earthquake. They started expanding their family business in DC in 2012, providing us a glimpse of their past, using many of the same old traditional techniques and recipes.

We will do a tour of their distillery and tastings of their different liqueurs and then stop by at their new tasting room, where flights of the mixed drinks cost $12 (for two) or $15 (for three). The cocktail menu is split into two parts: classics including a negroni, an Americano, and a spritz, and specialties that incorporate other liqueurs such as limoncello.
