What are Low Intervention Wines ?

Low Intervention Wines or more commonly called natural wines are made with minimal chemical and technological intervention, both in growing grapes and making them into wine.

The term 'Natural Wines', itself can be a misleading term, as there are no established guidelines or a certification body, for labeling wines as natural, hence we are using the term - Wines with an acceptable level of intervention.

The following is a basic criteria for Low Intervention Wines:
  • Organically or bio-dynamically grown grapes, with or without certification.
  • Hand-picked, small producer, low-yielding vineyards.
  • No added sugars and no cultivated yeasts or foreign bacteria.
  • No adjustments for acidity and no additives for color or mouth-feel.
  • Minimal or no added sulphites aka sulfites and no pesticides in the vienyard.

Our host Jeannie will also have a few wines from low-intervention practitioners from Spain, France and Chile, for tasting, which are amazing and good value, and more importantly - No headaches for those that are affected by certain chemicals added to wines.
