Holiday Party with Sparkling or Still Wines

We are going to bid farewell to 2019, with a little holiday cheer and a celebration of all the fun moments we have had with Grapes & Grains this year, while making new friends and exploring the many beautiful parts of DC, Maryland and Virginia.

At our holiday party, at the Somerset House Wine Room in the Dupont Circle neighborhood, we will taste some of our favorite wines from 2019 and sparkling wines from around the world.

Wine Tasting Details

Our core member Jeannie will be hosting the holiday party at the Somerset House Wine Room in Washington DC's Dupont Circle neighborhood, where we will be tasting different wines from around the world sparkling or still.

This is member participation event, as each participant brings a bottle and some food to share based on the guidelines provided by our host and organizer

Participation Guidelines

• Each participant must bring a wine bottle red or white still or sparkling. For this event, we encourage bringing a favorite wine you had in 2019 or your favorite sparkling wine.
• Bring some cheese or charcuterie or food or dessert to share.
• The host address will be sent to the confirmed participants a few days before the event.

Note: The $10 fee will help cover the cost of renting the Somerset House wine room for this event.

During the course of the evening, we will be tasting and talking about wines while socializing with friends and our social group members.

We have specified a few sparkling wine regions in the details below, but you may venture off the beaten path and bring a sparkling wine from a different region or your favorite 2019 still wine.

Sparkling Wines from around the World

In the pantheon of sparkling wines, Champagne has always stood at the top, though good, even great, sparkling wines are made in many parts of the world. Sparkling wines, like Cava, Spumante, Sekt and Crémant, among others, have closed the quality gap while generally remaining more affordable.

Sparkling wine and food pairing

Sparkling wines are known by different names in different countries, but most of them employ what’s known as the méthode Champenoise. This means that the second fermentation, which introduces the bubbles, occurs in each individual bottle.
